Are there any extra precautions I should take whist in hospital?
There are no precautions to follow before the implant.
After the implant there is a small chance that you might pass a seed in your urine. The chances are greatest in the first few days following the implant, while the seeds are still settling down. Because of this, some precautionary measures are taken whilst you are in the hospital and we would ask for your co-operation with these:
Once you have had the implant you should not urinate into the toilet in your room or any other toilet in the hospital. You will be provided with containers to urinate into after the implant (this also allows us to measure the amount of urine you pass before you are discharged).
You should alert the nursing staff if you suspect that you have passed a seed in your urine or if you suspect there is a loose seed anywhere in your room.
Visiting is unrestricted whilst you are in the hospital as very little radiation is emitted from your body. However, you are advised to observe the guidelines under “Are there any extra precautions I should take after being discharged?”
