Clinical Governance - Medical Advisory Committee (MAC)
Membership
The membership includes representation for most of the specialities practicing within the hospital. Representation of some specialties can be co-opted as required. For a detailed policy on the membership and voting policy of the MAC please refer to our Website.
Purpose of the Committee
- Advise and make recommendation to the CEO on all aspects of medical policy, staff and equipment
- Channel of communication between the Consultant users and the hospital
- Recommend actions to improve the efficiency of services and maintain clinical standards
- Advise, when requested, on ethics and standards including research programmes
- Assist the CEO and CNO in providing training for hospital staff in clinical matters
- Assist in the application of agreed medical audit practices
- Provide advice on the appointment of Resident Medical Officers along with the CNO
- Advise the CEO on the granting, maintenance and withdrawal of practice privileges at the hospital
- Assess the safety of new procedures and grant privileges for suitably trained clinicians
- Review Clinical Governance Committee reports on key performance indicators and patient complaints, such as:
- - any deaths at the hospital;
- - unplanned re-admissions to hospital;
- - unplanned returns to theatre
- - unplanned transfers to other hospitals;
- - adverse clinical incidents;
- - incidence of post-operative deep vein thrombosis;
- - post operative infection rates for the hospital.
