Full time in the Independent sector since 2002 dividing his time between Essex and the Princess Grace Hospital (30 Devonshire Street), specialising in all aspects of Neurology. First Neurology registrar at Charing Cross Hospital, then senior registrar, setting up services and research programmes in migraine, stroke and ParkinsonÆs disease (1976 Princess Margaret Migraine Clinic). 1979 high dose steroid therapy for Multiple Sclerosis relapses and malignant brain tumours, and in Essex, specialist clinics in headache, TIA, stroke, M.S. and ParkinsonÆs disease. Founder of the Essex based charity Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Group (MSTG) 1980 Scholarship to N.I.H. Bethesda, Washington as Associate Professor in Neuroepidemiology.
Born in London, Grammar school in Brighton, Medical School û KingÆs College London and St GeorgeÆs Hospital, Hyde Park Corner. General medical training in the south, neurology training û GuyÆs, Maudsley and Charing Cross Hospitals. 1982 appointed NHS consultant to South Essex, Basildon Hospital and the Regional Neuroscience Centre at Oldchurch Hospital (Now QueenÆs Hospital)Romford. MRCP 1972, FRCP 1992, member RSM, Medical Society of London, Chelsea Physic, ABN, committee member Independent Doctors Forum. Actively involved in teaching, research interests, publications 8 books and over 60 papers, book chapters.
Currently 8 neurology clinics a week available Monday and Friday at Princess Grace and evenings (also for emergencies). At any one time he is working with 35 û 40 hospital specialists (audit twice a year). His office is fully computerised (DGL) and he has direct access to all clinical files on his laptop in clinic. The systems are secure, virus free and all scanning and shredding is done in our Neurology office. Dr Capildeo has had 2 private secretaries (full-time) in 27 years of private practice and excellent support staff.
He lives in Lord North Street, Westminster with his wife Rita and family having fully restored their historic 1722 house.
