Mr Charles Imber is a consultant general surgeon with a special interest in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, as well as liver transplantation. This area of surgery ranges from keyhole gallbladder surgery to more advanced liver / pancreatic resections for cancer. He also specialises in hernia surgery and is a member of the ôtotal abdomenö team here at the Princess Grace which is a unique multidisciplinary unit offering all aspects of straightforward and complex hernia surgery.
After qualifying from Cambridge University Mr Imber has had extensive training in all aspects of both open and laparoscopic HPB surgery in London, Cambridge and Birmingham. He is the Head of service for the University College Hospital Liver/Pancreas team which has published world class outcomes for major benign / malignant surgery and also performs liver transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital. He is also a member of the London Sarcoma service based at UCH.
In 2002 Mr Imber completed a Masters thesis on the preservation of liver tissue for transplantation at Cambridge University. He has published extensively in the scientific literature with over 30 cited manuscripts in major journals, written several book chapters and has presented at national and international meetings on a regular basis.
